AP Club 1 v Knutsford 2

Match: Knutsford 2 way to AP Club 1

Date: 4/11/ 2010

The seconds won their second match of the season thanks to wins from the new quinquagenarian (Perry), the relatively
new quinquagenarian (Walt) and Simon "boy" Whitaker. Your reporter Evo (and non playing capt) only managed to see
the first game and then had to rush home to assist with some urgent GCSE maths homework. Here is the report on
Perry's match, which got off to a record early start at 6:50. Perry had requested that he play early as it was his 50th
birthday on Thursday (who'd have guessed!) and he wanted to get home to celebrate.
Perry hit the ball hard, took it early, played no dropshots, asked for no lets, turned his opponents brain to jelly and won
the match - to maintain his 100% record.
Up next at 4 was Walt (self-demoted to 4 as he needed to get away) against John Crouch who'd been coaxed out of
retirement. A slightly lethargic Mike produced a mixed display and after some hard hitting games found himself 1-2
down. Then he put his squash head on, changed the pace of the game and started floating the ball to the back of the
court, taking the next two games comfortably to win 3-2. Team now 2-0 up.
Next on was Simon at 3, against Khaled Balabil, a young sleek looking player. Simon took no prisoners and quickly won
the first game 9-0. Following a clinical display, Simon proceeded to win the next two games, only breaking into sweat
because the courts were so hot. So, 3-0 to Simon and 3-0 to Knutsford, match won.
Two young bucks on next in John Ward Jnr and Chris Jump. After two very close, hard hitting games John unfortunately
found himself 0-2 down. However, following a pep talk from his team mates, John settled down and started to mix it up,
narrowly missing out on an impressive come-back, losing the fifth game 8-10. Hard luck John.
Dave W was last on at 1 against an understated Liam McIlveen. Dave was a bit concerned before he went on court as
Liam had been playing mind games by re-counted tales of last year when he'd taken John Burke to 5 games! Dave
played very well, mixing drops and lobs and gave his opponent a run for his money in the first, but the result was never
really in doubt, as Liam calmly floated around the court to take the game 3-0.
A good result for Knutsford winning 16-9.
