Club AZ 2 v Knutsford 4

Match: Knutsford 4 Away to Club AZ 2

11 Nov 2010

Club AZ 2 are riding high, two courts to play on - all the makings of an early night! David O'Brien at 5 started proceedings against John, two hard hitters on a very warm court. Plenty of cracking drives from both players and David stuck to it but eventually went down 3-0. Meanwhile Graham Thomson at 4 was playing Paul, who made Graham struggle with pinpoint serves and wall-hugging drives. Graham was forced to play too short and never really threatened, going down 3-0. Geoff Dalton stepped up at 3 against Simon and took a while to calibrate his lob serves on the hot court. By game two he was just about getting it right, but Simon was giving it some crack, another 3-0 defeat and the match lost by 8.30!
Roger Snape at 1 had instructions to string it out so the tea would be ready. And string it out he did! Roger and his opponent Graham played some super squash, backhand rallies, the lot. Graham won the first two, Roger fought back to 2-2, looking absolutely knackered and puce, but he had enough puff to take the fifth to 8-8, before losing agonisingly 10-8: unlucky Roger! Meanwhile Gwyn Pickering, straight off the plane, had been duelling with Andy, whose drives sounded like gunshots! It took Gwyn a game to get going, the second was close but Andy pinched it, and the third was And'ys too: another 3-0 defeat and a resounding reverse Hawaii (0-5) in the match, with only Roger's 2 points to show for it.
