Knutsford 2 v AP Club 1

Match: Knutsford 2 home to AP Club 1

Date: 17 /02/ 2011

Makeshift Seconds Triumph

With the mainstays of the seconds either enfeebled by injury or just absent through lack of dedication, Captain Evo was
worried. The team selection was not made any less stressful due to malevolent interference from across the Atlantic
(Jacko in Texas). However after numerous emails, phone calls and texts a team was eventually assembled. But this was
probably nowhere near as many emails, phone calls and texts required to assemble the Fourths (sorry Geoff!).
After months off, the Seconds welcomed the return of Greg. He played at 5th string, where he looked a natural! It was a
decent performance, if a bit rusty. Still, he was never really troubled and did the business, winning 3-1.
Second on was Whitty, making his first appearance at no 1 against the beatable Tony Vickers. Was he up to the big
occasion? No! Whitty took the first easily, but then lost the next 3. It was an uncharacteristically poor display from our
man - the usual touch had deserted him as he repeatedly tinned his drops and failed to get any length. It was probably
just one of those days.
Then it was Evo's turn. He won the first 2 games relatively comfortably, easily lost the third and just hung on to win the
4th 9-8. He didn't have another game in him - phew.
The strangest match of the night was the Robbo- Crouch encounter. If there was an NWCSL award for the least no of
points scored in a 3-2 match, this pair would have won it - Robinson 28 points: Crouch 24 points. It seemed like each
player took it in turns to play rubbish, or more charitably, to play well.
The last match was a thriller - 2 runners slugging it out. Ward (Snr) vs Jump (Jnr). After a number of marathon rallies
Senior beat Junior 3-1. A special mention here is due to Robbo for imparting his astute analysis of the match to the
awesomely fit Ward. Surprisingly Ward paid attention to this advice and played a disciplined and tight game to grind his
opponent into the ground. Excellent squash to watch.
Thanks very much to all who helped wash up afterwards (Jane G was away for the weekend), and helped avoid another
Dirty Kitchen Fiasco as caused by the Firsts and Fourths a few weeks ago!!
