Alderley Edge 4 v Knutsford 3

Match: Knutsford 3 Away to Alderley Edge 4

Date: 20th January 2010

Before anyone asks the Captain was absent again although in usual Bill fashion no arrangement was left un turned.
At the start of the Match we were top of the league 1 Point clear of Crewe Vagrants and 15 clear of Club AZ, although they had not yet recorded their result from last week. A good win tonight may bring an end to the Alderley Edge challenge for the year.
The Knutsford team for the night was considered very strong as was the case with Alderley Edge as, dare I say it, their 3rd team did not have a game that night.
Banished to the outer court for the 5th string game Tony dispatched Lee Morrison in 3 games. Simon playing at 2 went on the show court and produced a performance of credit to the court crushing Charles Burr in 3 straight games with 8 points dropped. -I hope the food will be up to something to ensure his allegiance to the thirds for the run in.
Steve up next at 4. This was going to be a tough game on paper but on the court Steve's unique agricultural style shone through to take the game in 3 straight games.
That was the match in the bag so now a need to build on the increasingly important point's total. Who better than Mr reliable - Dave Smith to step up to the plate. He walks on confidently game point in the first and then carnage. Dave loses the first game 10 - 8 and then only wins 2 more points in the match. Dave then disappeared off to Narnia world consumed with frustration, anger and disappointment. He vowed to return next week a new man. I will let Geoff know!
Johnny then entered the arena, his opponent, with hair in the wrong places (that's rich of me) looked formidable and quickly took the first game. Evo put up a resurgent effort getting closer in the second before peaking to win the third. Was this a revival. No sadly not.
Then for the highlight of the night - Fish Pie! A great result although lets not get carried away, It will be spag bol next week!
