Alderley Edge 4 v Knutsford 4

Match:  Knutsford 4 Away to Alderley Edge 4

Date:  17 March 2010

Alderley 4ths had fortunately transformed into Alderley 5ths so there was some hope. 1st on Nick at 5 up against a very athletic looking lady, Wendy (Ladies 1st division player). Nick started well using the tried and tested method against ladies of hitting them off court. Unfortunately Wendy had seen this all before and produced some technically excellent squash and Nick was soon despatched 0 - 3. Meanwhile on the other court Ian with fitness regained was taking on the Tim at number 1. Some long rallies and good squash followed but Tim maintained greater consistency and won 3 - 0 after some close games. Kynan at 3 next against their captain (beefy) Alex. Unfortunately didn't see this as I went to try and reverse the tide on the other court. I understand however that despite playing some decent squash Kynan was just overpowered and again lost 0 - 3. Back to my game at 2 against big Neil, I started well but errors at critical points cost the first 2 games. However realising the cause I reduced the errors to win the next 2 quite easily only for them to return in the fifth which I lost 6-9. Finally the entertainment for the evening, Guy at 4 against "angry" Tim son of Wendy, above. After some great squash, kicking the wall, dubious language and serious racket abuse the score stood at 2 - 2. Guy turns up for the 5th with disaster having struck, the famous (and somewhat ridiculous) glasses have broken, which ball should Guy hit? Unfortunately we would not find out as after 3 points Guy succumbed to a mysterious groin injury at that was the end of that. Back to the bar for nice curry. A 4 - 20 defeat but at least we were in the bar after the 1st team so it could have it been worse.
