Prestbury 6 v Knutsford 3

Match:  Knutsford 3Away to Prestbury 6

Date:  24th March 2011

On Paper this was a banker.  Objective:  19 points would be enough to guarantee promotion and a good point haul to address the 10 point deficit to AZ club with 2 games remaining.

Nothing had changed.  Bill was not playing, Dave and Gary were late.

By the time the bus turned up just before 8! Tony had put 3 points on the board and Steve was 2- 0 up cruising through to yet another 3 - 0.  Complacency, the Achilles heal of the thirds throughout the night saw Steve stutter in the 3rd dropping twice as many points as he did in the first 2 games. However not a problem just a blip for Mr Thursday Night and another 3 - 0 chalked up.

Dave who had dropped himself to third string for his irregular form of late or perhaps for just being late, suffered from some anxious drop shots which were just above the serve line.  Taking the first game 9 -7 the second game was more frustrating which was taken out on his racket with a lovely smash against the wall with the ball nowhere to be seen.  Whilst I proclaimed he was playing better with a broken racket it was not sufficiently convincing to prevent me having to donate my racket and there began an anxious ten minutes for me. Dave went on to drop only 1 point for the rest of the match.  Dave if you want to buy a decent racket let me know!

Next up Roger Looking 10 years older sporting a full head of hair - Where did that come from? The match was timed at slightly less than the warm up.  Back to his older self Roger was conceding progressively more points each game as fatigue took over.  However not a problem as the total concession was only 3 points!  He had moved a step closer to the top of the performance league table with 1 game remaining.  Can this be the come back of all come back homes?

Gary perhaps faced with the toughest challenged of the night performed just like United have all season.  No more effort used than absolutely necessary.  Like Dave, Gary took the first game 9-7 and then allowed complacency to affect the flow before finishing strong to record a full house.

The usual lovely food however the limited flow of drinks noted!

Promotion was now assured but AZ took 10 points off Prestbury 5 so we need Crewe to do us a favour and beat AZ for us next week to have any chance of a league win.
