Knutsford 2 v Knutsford 3 Seconds

Nigel Uttley started the Knutsford 2nd & 3rd team Derby Match against Neil Robinson (3-0).

Nigel's touch was in and he took all three games with ease; masterly stroking the ball around court and regularly finding the nick with his drops. Robinson saw little of the ball and made no impression on the game.

Next Steve Costello took on Steve O'Hare the opposition 1 string (3-0). O'Hare attacked from the start and made it clear that it wasn't going to be a practice game by any means.  Once Steve realised this he relaxed and took the pressure of his drop by clearing the T with back hand cross courts. There was a bit of a wobbler in the 2nd game when O'Hare came close following an early lead he had created with f/h straights into the nick. As the match progressed the 2nd team captain's form proved too good and the match was won.

Next was Keith Edminson & Mike Walton at 5 (3-1).

Keith started cautiously and Walton took full advantage of some weak shots by Keith, despite signs of a comeback Walton was pleased to take the first game.  Keith then stepped up the pace of the game and hit a better length.  He continued to pile on the pressure and stretched the rallies.  Walton's athletics was ineffective against Keith's tight game.

Next David Waring bt Simon Whitaker 3-0.  The first game was a tough one as both players fought hard for a foot hold in the match. David came out on top and looked good from there on in. He controlled his f/h length which made it hard for Whittaker to play an attacking game.  Dave stuck to his c/c drop and Whittaker chased around the T but could not dig the ball out.

Greg Marshall vs John Evans (3-0).

Greg knew his opponents game well and expected pressure from Evans' drop shot.  Greg's movement was better co-ordinated and his attacks were well timed. Greg had control of the rallies making Evans chase the drop boast combinations.

A couple of hard games coming up but every prospect of continuing our run.
