Knutsford 2 v Knutsford 3

On the back of two well deserved wins, Knutsford thirds found themselves up against it, in the form of title contenders Knutsford seconds.

Robinson set the ball rolling against the stylish Uttley who was never really troubled playing some steady and accurate squash, controlling the T  to take the first 9-1. Robinson never really got going and was always off pace losing the next two in succession and the match 3-0. A lack lustre performance and a well deserved win for Uttley.

Next on was the in form O Hare who was looking to extend his unbeaten run against the steady Costello. The first game saw some long demanding rallies with O Hare retrieving well but Costello controlled the game, to win it 9-4. O'Hare came back with a vengeance and the next was a griller with both players stretching each other with every rally. At eight all it could have gone either way, but O Hare faltered and Costello took the second 10-8. The game took its toll on O'Hare and after a series of errors; the third went to Costello 9-2, 2-0 to the Seconds.

Walton was next, up against the experienced left hander Edminson, a hard ask but he started well and played some effective, deep and accurate squash to storm into the lead 9-5. Alas the victory was not to be as Edminson steadied his game and upped the pace. Walton battled hard but Edminson took control; and with it the next three games and match 9-1, 9-1, 9-3. A valiant effort, and a valuable point for the team; as it turned out the only point of the night. Man of the match as the only one to get a point.

Next up, after a great win the previous week was Whitaker against the fit and accurate Waring. The first started very evenly with both players playing some great winners and both of them covering the court with ease. At eight all, it was evenly pitched but Waring edged in front and took the game 10-8. The next started where the first left off but Whitaker started to falter, feeling the pressure from tight and accurate serves and went down 9-3. Waring then continued to dominate and piled on the pressure. Whitaker tried hard to get back in but it was not to be and the game went to Waring 9-1, giving him the match. A gutsy performance from Whitaker who after a bright start, faltered at the end.

Last on was Evo, against the now athleticMarshall, a difficult game ahead. Evo as ever started at full pace matchingMarshallshot for shot. The pace was fast with both players stretching their opponent at every opportunity but a series of unforced errors cost Evo and he went down in the first 9-6. The second started much the same way butMarshallwas beginning to sneak ahead. Evo battled hard butMarshallkept the pace up and took the game 9-4. The same pattern followed in the third and although Evo fought valiantly,Marshallhad the upper hand and took the game 9-6,and match 3-0. A valiant effort against an in formMarshall.

Overall a disappointing night for the thirds who expected to do better, but hats off to the seconds who came out as worthy winners.

Thirds now need to up the game against next week's opponents Macclesfield and notch up some more valuable points in a bid for a mid table finish.
